About
The Club
The Western Wolves is a medieval combat reenactment sports group based out of Ballarat and Bendigo.
What is Buhurt?
Buhurt is a full contact sport where participants wear suits of authetic medieval armour and wield blunt yet heavy steel weapons in teams of usually three or five, though these team sizes can get into the tens or hundreds at very large events!
The simple rules of Buhurt is to get your opponents on the ground (three points of contact) and be the last one standing. You can do this through grappling and wrestling, good teamwork and plain old brute force to bend your opposition onto the ground.
There are aspects of medieval combat that also include “Duels” (one on one) and “ProFights” (one on one with wrestling) that involve a different set of rules and skills to regular buhurt (team fights).
What is HEMA?
HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) is the study of swordplay and has a focus on weapons technique that pairs well with other medieval sports.
